Taylor Nakakihara
New Role at Sun
At the start of 2023, I began an internal transfer within Sun Communities. This all came together almost exactly one year since I first accepted the offer for my current Marketing Coordinator position. The position is technically lateral to my current position but offers a lot more freedom, flexibility, and room to lead.
I was internally head-hunted for this position after being recognized through my normal duties as Marketing Coordinator. It feels amazing to be recognized for a job well done, but the feeling of having someone see my potential for more and want to give me that opportunity is one of the best professional compliments I could ask for.
My new role takes me from focusing on one resort that has both short-term and long-term ways to stay and redirects me to work out what Sun Communities' social media presence looks like. I will be the first Social Media Coordinator to focus on this side of the company, the majority of the team supports our transient vacation side under Sun Outdoors.
I will be working from home in my new role and will be joining an entirely remote team. I am getting a raise, but I am getting a lot more than that by taking this new position:

Commuting
I already have a blessed commute - 15 minutes and 10.8 miles each way (2.5hrs/week). For reference, my last job had a 1hr/48.2 mile commute (one way). Starting sometime in 2023 - no commuting at all, except for when I need to travel for work.... hello mileage reporting!
Time I'll Get Back
2.5 additional hours of free time per week might not sound like a lot, but when extrapolated over a year, that's more than a full workweek of time I will have back to use how I want
Dollars & Cents
I am getting a wage increase, but I will also saving money on gas and time spent driving to work, so it's a lot more than a $6240 raise.
Auto-Immune Friendly
I have to take more precautions with my health because if I don't, it takes me a lot longer to bounce back than the average Jane. WFH allows me to have more control over the germs I get exposed to.
I will also be able to control my office climate - no more going numb because I'm too cold!
I will also not have to go through the uncomfortable dance of not being included in team meals due to having Celiac Disease... because I won't have team meals at my "home office" just solo meals.
Power in the People
I am excited to join a team where I am just like everyone else, and we are all WFH. I am honored to be given an opportunity to lead and make my mark in my new role.
I will also be home to deal with service appointments and deliveries, so I can go back to ordering from Misfit Market and other temperature-sensitive deliveries.
And, last but certainly not least, my dog will be my main co-worker again!
I am grateful for the time I spent at Palm Creek Resort & Residences, and I am beyond excited to start this new chapter focusing on Sun Communities.
